The old design of the pivot plate frame was a steel assembly that consisted of fabricated and machined parts
that were welded together.
- The welded assembly performed to mechanical
specification, but was less than ideal for cost, assembly, variation
in form-and-fit,
and inventory management.
The casting engineers at Dotson proposed
a near-net shape casting design which cost less, improved form-and-fit,
and reduced stresses for longer life and improved durability.
