Orientation
in the Mold |
In mold
design for castings, the orientation of the part in the mold is an
important factor in producing a sound casting. |
-
Casting
defects (porosity, inclusions), when they occur, tend to rise and
segregate in the upper/cope mold section of the casting.
-
The
casting should be oriented so that machined surfaces and critical
features are molded in the drag or the lower section of the
casting.
