# 1 -- The top of the stiffening rib is an isolated section; however it is an unstressed
region where machining is not required. The formation of iron carbide would not have a
negative effect and cooling rates are not an issue.
Feature #3 -- The
top of the cylinder with the bearing pocket is an area where machining is required (OD and
ID), but the wall thickness immediately adjacent to the pocket is sufficient to retain
heat and prevent excessive cooling.
